The 2019 BMW 3 series is scheduled to launch on Aug 21 in India and it is one of the popular entry-level premium sedans in our country. The seventh-generation 3 series is big on dimensions and hosts new features on the inside. So here are the top five things you should expect from the upcoming sedan.
ExteriorsThe most prominent detail is the kidney-shaped grille which can be found on new BMW models. It is then followed by the laser beam headlights which is an optional feature. The side profile gets the Hofmeister kink on the C-pillars rather than the doors. The rear profile gets redesigned bumpers and the taillights are now slimmer and take inspiration from the 5 series.

Interiors The major overhaul is observed inside the cabin and it now gets a large 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and BMW’s Intelligent personal assistant. The 2019 India spec BMW 3 series also gets an all-digital instrument cluster with Heads up display (HUD), memory seats, electric sunroof and among other features.
New PlatformThe new 3 series is based on the CLAR platform which is shared by the 5 series and 7 series. The sedan is now 71 mm longer and its wheelbase has grown by 41 mm from the predecessor. With this new platform, there is a significant weight reduction of 55kgs. Also, space management has been a key notice as the vehicle offers 11mm of more headroom and shoulder room at the rear. The boot space now offers 481 litres of space and about 36 litres of space is available across the cabin.
PowertrainAs for the powertrains of the new 3-series, it will get a 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre turbo petrol and diesel engine options, all of which will be mated to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. India will get the rear-wheel-drive version of the sedan, while BMW also retails the xDrive all-wheel-drive version globally. The car has a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and the spring rates have also been stiffened by 20% for a better driving experience.

PriceWith the addition of new features and a completely new design, the sedan will sit at a premium price than the outgoing model. Currently, the 3 series in India starts at Rs 39.8 lakh and goes upto Rs 47.3 lakh for the top end. It competes with the likes of Audi A4, Mercedes C Class and Jaguar XE. All prices relate to ex-showroom, Delhi.
