Bajaj and Triumph had signed a joint venture in 2017 to develop a new motorcycle together. Their first bike will be a 500cc motorcycle which will target the mid-segment motorcycles.
However, in a recent interview to Moneycontrol, Rakesh Sharma, CEO of Bajaj Auto, has confirmed that the Bajaj-Triumph motorcycle has been delayed a bit. He stated that the Research and Development team is working together currently.
The new bike will be designed by Triumph in the UK and then co-developed by Bajaj Auto in India. The CEO further stated that the deal will be closed in a month and the first Bajaj-Triumph bike should launch in India by the next 2 years.

As said, their first bike will be between 250-500cc, most likely a 500cc motorcycle. Reports say that a couple of more bikes might be launched equipped with engines ranging between 400-800cc.
Recently, we reported that Bajaj is also working with KTM to develop a new 500cc twin-cylinder motorcycle for the Indian market. Possibly, Bajaj might use the 500cc engine on other products as well.
We suspect that the Bajaj-Triumph bike will be manufactured at the former’s Chakan plant. With some localization, the prices will be kept in check, so as to give a stiff competition.

Triumph came together with Bajaj Auto because of its dying sales here. India is considered as a potential market, because of which, it came with India’s one of the biggest two-wheeler manufacturer.
Similarly, a lot of premium brands have partnered with the mass-market brands to produce a low capacity motorcycle. Such bikes are quite premium and also provide the buyers with a big brand in an affordable price.
Prime examples of this include TVS-BMW Motorrad for G 310 Twins and Bajaj-KTM for the Duke and RC series. Reports say that Hero might also partner up with Ducati to launch a 250-500cc motorcycle.

Bajaj is also tying up with Swedish Husqvarna to launch their neo-modern motorcycles in India. Also, it is bringing a new Urbanite electric two-wheeler brand in India this year. These two reasons could have possibly delayed the Bajaj Triump-bike.
