SANKHALI: Around 150 mining dependants, on Saturday, questioned the Union Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) Shripad Naik over the issue of the resumption of mining in the state.
Naik, the Minister for Archives and Archaeology Vijai Sardesai, MLA Praveen Zantye and other dignitaries were at Narvem, Bicholim to attend a ceremony held there for launching the work for the renovation of Saptakoteshwar temple.
The upset mining dependants asked Naik as to why he could not fix an appointment with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and hold talks with him on the mining issue.
While replying to them, the Union Minister of State for AYUSH said that he has been constantly trying to fix an appointment with the Prime Minister for the last 6 months, and also trying to resolve the issue for last 10 months.
He added that he is positive about getting an appointment with the Prime Minister very soon.
“I am hopeful about reaching a permanent solution soon, and we will have good results,” he added.
The mining dependants also asked Sardesai as to what action the government has taken against the mining companies which have been retrenching the workers without following a proper procedure.
The Minister for Archives and Archaeology told them that the government has noted that the mining companies are bent upon taking decisions by defying the rules.
He added that the government will take a serious action on such mining companies at an appropriate time.
Sardesai also said that he has been instrumental in fixing talks with central leaders in order to resolve the mining issue.
Now, the govt should work to find some solution to the problem, he added.
