Picking the Best Potential Manchester United Lineup to Face Tottenham Hotspur on SundayDylan Bettencourt10 Jan 2019
Tottenham Hotspur face Manchester United on Sunday, in what could be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first real challenge as interim boss of the Red Devils.
Spurs come into the match off the back of a crucial win over Chelsea midweek in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, while United also come into the game in impressive form, with five back-to-back wins in all competitions.
David de Gea (GK) – De Gea had a difficult start to the season but looks in much better form under the new interim boss.
Antonio Valencia (RB) – Solskjaer will look to utilise Valencia's defensive abilities over Young's attacking abilities, as the threat of Son Heung-min will be a threat to the United defense all game.
Phil Jones (CB) – Jones and his centre back partner will have the near impossible job of keeping Harry Kane quiet all game, Jones looks to be Solskjaer's preferred choice in the centre of defense.
Victor Lindelof (CB) – Lindelof looked a complete mess under Mourinho but has improved immensely over the last five games, and will look to nullify the threat of Harry Kane.
Luke Shaw (LB) – Despite his rocky relationship with Mourinho, Shaw seems to be the most consistently present defender for the Red Devils this season.
Nemanja Matic (DM) – Matic will look to stop the threat of Spurs' two attacking midfielders in Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, in what could prove to be the most difficult task of the game.
Ander Herrera (CM) – One of the hardest working midfielders in the Premier League will be needed to assist Matic in his task of nullifying the threat of Spurs' midfield.
Paul Pogba (CM) – Pogba looks to have recovered from his knock against Newcastle and will be ready to prove that he is genuinely improving in his advanced role after coming under heavy criticism earlier in the season.
Anthony Martial (LW) – Perhaps United's most consistent player all season, Martial can continue to impress with a good performance in another big game.
Marcus Rashford (RW) – Another United player who looks to be playing with freedom and a smile on his face with added aggression, Rashford could be a major threat to the Tottenham defense.
Romelu Lukaku (ST) – Coming off the back of two goals in his last two games, Lukaku has surely earned himself a start and can cement in his place with a big performance against a big team.
