The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has turned out to be a very successful product for the homegown automaker in India. In its hatchback iteration, the Baleno has garnered more than 5 lakh unit sales in our country in a time span of just 3 years. And even today, the demand for its is such that upon booking, one has to wait for a certain duration, depending upon the variant chosen.
But as the product matures, Maruti Suzuki has decided to provide this vehicle with its mid-life update. Rumours has it that the automaker might launch the updated Baleno in India as soon as the end of January 2019. Given below it s detailed account of all the updates as well as addition we can expect on the new 2019 iteration of this premium hatchback.
So far there has been no official confirmation regarding the launch date of the Maruti Baleno facelift in 2019. There have been a number of rumours stating that the updated iteration of this hatchback might launch in India during the month of January 2019.
One of the biggest reasons for the huge success of the Maruti Baleno is its prices. Hence, with the update, we expect them to remain the same as before. However, with the introduction of new features as well as the launch happening in a new year, price could see a slight increase.

Since this update in 2019 is going to be a mid-life update, Maruti is unlikely to revamp the design of this car to a great extent. We can however still expect a slight tweak in the headlamps design, bumper layout and probably the addition of a few chrome elements, just like we saw on the Ciaz facelift which made its debut in India recently. Maruti can go a step ahead and even introduce new set of alloy wheels for the 2019 Baleno.
Just as is the case with the exteriors, the interiors of the update Maruti Baleno are unlikely to see a major overhaul. The design will remain predominantly the same. The colour scheme will remain the same i.e. black with silver accents. Maruti can provide leather upholstery in the top-spec variants and maybe change the design of the seat fabric.

The petrol derivative of the new Baleno will remain the same as before. It will continue to come with the 1.2-litre, K-Series VVT engine.
This motor produces 83 BHP along with 115 Nm of peak torque. Currently, this premium hatchback comes with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. Also, petrol derivatives will get a CVT automatic unit.
The diesel derivative of this vehicle, contrary to out expectations will remain the same. it will continue with its 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder BS-IV complain Multi-jet engine sourced from Fiat.
In its current guise, this oil-burner is capable of churning out &4 BHP of power along with 190 Nm of peak torque. It comes as standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
As and when Maruti decided to upgrade its engine portfolio to BS-VI compliance, we expect the automaker to debut its in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Baleno. We expect this engine to produce somewhere around the mark of 90 BHP of power along with 200 Nm of peak torque.

Since the new Baleno is going to get the same petrol engine, it fuel-efficiency figure in the updated avatar will also remain the same. Hence, the petrol derivative of the Baleno is going to give a mileage of around 21.4 km/l.
The current 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine in the Baleno promises to offer a mileage of 27.39 km/l. On the other hand, the new 1.5-litre diesel engine is likely to give a slightly lower mileage of around 26 km/l.

The Maruti Baleno facelift 2019 will remain the same in terms of its external dimensions since there is not going to be any alterations with the platform of the vehicle. The same will measure 3,995 mm in length, 1,745 mm in width and 1,510 mm in height. It will have a wheelbase of 2,520 mm while the ground clearance is going to stand at 170 mm. The boot capacity of this vehicle stands at 330-liters.
The new Maruti Baleno will continue to retail through the existing NEXA dealership outlets. Hence, its variant line-up will remain unchanged. Consequently, it will come in the following variants:

Apart from minor revisions in the feature list of the Baleno, it will continue to come with the same list. Maruti could choose to add some new features. These are likely to include cornering headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.
The current iteration of this hatchback comes with standard safety features such as dual-front airbags, Anti-lock braking system, Electronic brake force distribution along with child seat anchorage as standard. With the introduction of the 2019 iteration, the Baleno is going to come with rear parking sensors, speed warning alert as additional standard equipment.
The new Baleno will continue to compete in the premium hatchback segment in India. Hence, it will compete against the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, Ford Figo and the Fiat Punto.
