PONDA: The Anmod ghat road on NH4A, which connects Goa to Belagavi, has been closed for traffic from Friday due to the upgradation of 34-km long Ramnagar to Anmod National Highway.
Considering the work to be carried out, light motor vehicles will have to travel between Goa and Belagavi either via Amboli or Chorla Ghat.
Heavy vehicles will be permitted to use the Belagavi-Chandgad-Amboli-Sawantwadi-Goa route or Ramnagar to Karwar Highway route as per the notice issued by the Belagavi authorities. The road closure is expected to inconvenience residents of Ponda, Dharbandora and Sanguem talukas in Goa while travelling to Belagavi, as they will be forced to take a much longer route.
As per information, four-lane upgradation work on the Ramnagar to Anmod Ghat road has started from Friday and it is likely to take around six months’ time to complete the work.
Ramnagar-Anmod road upgradation work is a part of the Belagavi-Goa road-widening project, which is worth Rs 3,000 crore and the work is expected to go on for two years, said sources in the public works department.
