PANAJI: The government has dismissed Mohini Halarnkar, the then block development officer (BDO), Mormugao after a departmental inquiry was proved against her in a corruption case.
The order in this regard was issued by the directorate of vigilance. Sources informed that the departmental inquiry was proved against her as such the government took the decision to dismiss her from the service.
It may be recalled that in January 2015, the Anti Corruption Branch of the directorate of vigilance had registered a FIR against Mohini Halarnkar, the then block development officer of Mormugao and another employee Saroj Naik. They were booked under corruption act and various other sections of the IPC, including forgery and cheating.
A complaint in this regard was lodged by Siddhesh Faldesai, secretary of Chicalim village panchayat. According to the complainant, Halarnkar along with Saroj Naik had visited the office of Chicalim village panchayat asking for a memorandum issued by her and a letter purported to be from the office of Advocate General and had directed the panchayat secretaries of Chicalim, Sancoale and Majorda to effect payment of Rs 25,000 each to be deposited in the government treasury as payment in lieu of court fee and stamp
The complainant had claimed that Halarnkar demanded records relating to the memorandum and tore off pages of a register of proceedings of monthly meetings of Chicalim panchayat.
Initially, the FIR was registered by the Vasco police and subsequently the government transferred the case to the ACB.
Earlier in October 2014, she was suspended in connection with the matter and a departmental inquiry was initiated against her by the vigilance department.
