You’re going to want some superstars in your side, that’s a given, as you hunt for goals and assists with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar all top picks.
So you might need to scrimp on cash in other areas if you do want them, and these strikers might just save the day for your side.
So, here at talkSPORT.com, we’ve picked out 10 midfielders who may not be the most well known but we reckon could be bargains for your side and help you win your mini-league.
In Group H, the most even of them all, Liverpool forward Mane has the potential to roast some opponents with his pace and skill. He’s got 14 goals in 49 caps for his nation and you wouldn’t put it past him doing really well in Russia, especially against Japan.
He’s back on form after rejuvenating his career with Fulham in the Championship. Mitrovic also netted a hat-trick against Bolivia as the Serbs warmed up for the tournament.
This could be the time to shine for the winger known as ‘Chucky’. He had a brilliant debut campaign in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven and he netted 17 league goals, while also creating eight others.
One of several surprisingly cheap stars, Jesus seems set to start for Brazil in one of the most fearsome World Cup frontlines. At worst he’ll be a dynamic supersub and poach a goal or two.
Joachim Low seems a little undecided but if he does plump with the RB Lepizig star his pace could cut defences to ribbons. With South Korea an opponent, Werner will smell goals and you could be in the points.
This one surprised us and, quite frankly, we’d be shocked if you didn’t pick him up. The Paris Saint-Germain star gets goals and assists and will be key for France if they go far in the tournament.
Like Mane, Falcao is in Group H which makes him a little unpredictable. He could plunder a hatful against Japan, or strike out but, given this is his first and maybe only World Cup, he’ll be eager to hit the back of the net.
You may have seen his AC Milan form but totally disregard it. For his national team, playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, he’s scored 12 in 23 matches. Some were against lesser opposition, sure, but he’ll be feeling confident against Iran and Morocco.
