The bodies of the two tourists, who were feared drowned off the Calangute coast on Monday, are yet to be traced; rough sea is making it difficult for the naval divers to carry out the search operation.
Sources at Calangute police station informed that the naval divers are on duty from Monday, and added that even during the night, the operation was carried out.
Unfortunately the search operation was hampered due to the rough sea, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the other 3 drowned tourists, which were found on Monday, have been handed over to relatives after the post-mortem was conducted on them on Tuesday morning.
The police said that bodies of Kiran Mhaske and Shubham Vaidya, who are feared drowned, could not be found, and added that since Monday the naval divers are on the job.
Even the Coast Guard has been informed to keep a watch, the police added.
Three tourists from Maharashtra had lost their lives due to drowning, while two others, also from Maharashtra, were feared drowned off the Calangute coast early Monday morning. The deceased include two brothers.
According to the Calangute police, a group of 14 tourists from Mothi Umbri, Vitthal Nagar-Akola in Maharashtra had arrived in Goa by train on Monday.
The group reached the Margao railway station at 4 am after which they hired a vehicle to travel to Calangute. Soon after reaching Calangute beach, the group members ventured into the sea at around 6 am.
The police said that as the tourists were swimming in the choppy waters, five of them got swept away due to strong undercurrents, while others in the group managed to swim to the shore.
As the struggling tourists cried for help, locals ran towards the sea to save them and managed to bring three of them to the shore. Soon, a 108 ambulance was called and the three were rushed for medical help. However, they were pronounced dead by doctor on arrival.
The deceased include Pritesh Lankeshwae Nanda Gawali (32), a police constable, Chetan Lankeshwae Nanda Gawali (27), student and Ujwal Vakode (25), a mechanic.
Meanwhile, Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi said that the search operation is on.
