Parrikar to meet Oppn MLAs on December 16

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has convened a meeting of all 16 Opposition MLAs on December 16 to decide on development works in their respective constituencies and funds for the works.
This meeting was convened soon after Opposition leader Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar met Parrikar on Thursday, urging him to refrain from differentiating between ruling and Opposition MLAs.
On November 21, Parrikar had assured the ruling MLAs that the government will sanction Rs 25 crore each for undertaking plan and non-plan works through the public works department in their respective constituencies by March 2018.
“Recently the Chief Minister had assured the ruling MLAs that the government will sanction Rs 25 crore each for undertaking development works in their respective constituencies. But there was no announcement for the Opposition MLAs. Hence on behalf of the CLP I met the Chief Minister and requested him to address issues pertaining to the pending works in the constituencies represented by Congress MLAs,” Kavlekar said.
“Parrikar has promised me that he will meet the Congress MLAs on December 16 at the state secretariat to discuss development works in our constituencies. I requested him not to discriminate between MLAs as ruling and Opposition… we may have party differences, but we are here for the people of Goa,” he emphasised.
As the Chief Minister has now convened a meeting of the Opposition MLAs, the Congress is likely to drop the idea of moving a breach of privilege motion against the government.
Sometime back GPCC president Shantaram Naik had said that he asked the CLP to move a breach of privilege motion in the state legislative assembly during the winter session, claiming that the decision of the government to allocate Rs 25 crore each to the ruling party MLAs constituted a ‘scheme’ clandestinely effected by the government.
Naik had argued that the particular announcement amounted to breach of privilege as the notification with respect to the winter session of the assembly had already been announced, and that the government cannot make any statement outside the House when session is convened.
